H3oC  was also mandated by Swiss, French speaking cantons to determine the viability of a Cleantech cluster in Western Switzerland.  Its report facilitated this network to become the gateway to Cleantech in western Switzerland, as it supports the development of its companies and research organizations, and promotes the region as a European center of excellence for clean technologies (cleantech-alps).

Venturelab’s goal is to set off a new wave of Swiss entrepreneurs and in this way significantly increase the number of high added value jobs available in rapidly developing high-tech fields.
Since 2004, venturelab, as national program financed by the Commission for Technology and Innovation CTI, offers custom-tailored training modules to help increase awareness of students for entrepreneurship, as well as individual coaching measures for high-tech start-ups, jointly with numerous partners, in particular universities and engineering schools, and their respective technology transfer offices.

Venturelab training modules place particular emphasis on the project and on practice. The courses are free of charge but admission is selective: successful applicants must have an innovative business idea and demonstrate the will to carry out their project from start to finish.

At the end of this five-day workshop, you will present your project in front of a jury of investors and CTI Start-up experts, being eligible for the CTI Start-up label, a quality label on financial markets.
• Venture leaders – the Swiss national entrepreneur team: Do you have what it takes to be part of the elite? If so, then you may have the unique chance of traveling with other top start-ups to Boston (USA) as part of the official Swiss national entrepreneur team. During this time, you will have the opportunity of following an intensive ten-day business development course, and meet successful American start-ups, venture capitalists and start-up experts. The FloWatch-PAB uses patented wireless technology to send instructions, receive feedback and adjust the implanted device, therefore the implanted device does not contain a battery, all power coming from the signal.

FSI takes minority equity stakes, i.e. < 49%, in ventures it finances.  FSI functions as a shareholder that actively manages its equity stakes by looking at optimising the usage of its portfolio companies’ capital and financial resources.  FSI excels in structuring financing plans that do not require capital investments, like guaranteed bank or convertible loans, and public grants as FSI is accustomed to convey diverse investment strategies to angels and large institutional investors.  FSI aims at developing and securing compelling exit strategies for its companies it finances, in collaboration with their upper management.

FSI exclusively invests in companies incorporated in Switzerland, with strong linkages with the Geneva region.  Ventures from the bordering region of Geneva, or willing to relocate from abroad, are welcomed to apply.

Coaching to Empowerment

• Basic Check of Business Idea: the project team or young entrepreneur has to submit a business idea to CTI Start-up, which is then evaluated by experts.
• Professional Evaluation: when the project is accepted for registration, it is allocated a CTI Start-up coach.  All over 60 CTI Start-up coaches are experts in their field and help company founders and young entrepreneurs to professionally prepare and refine their business concept. Next the experts carry out a detailed evaluation based on the criteria: Market, technology, feasibility, management team, and patents.
• Professional Coaching: when the evaluation is positive, the business strategy is then optimised together with the coach and a detailed business plan devised. A pool of specialists can be consulted in order to assess specific business, technological and legal matters. This phase lasts between 6 and 18 months.  Eventually, project teams can apply for the CTI Start-up Label and present their venture in a plenary assembly consisting of managers, entrepreneurs, finance and patent experts.
